Fowey to Exeter
Today started well with a good breakfast and sunny skies. I was really tired after almost no sleep courtesy of the snoring last night but once on the bike all was good. We rode along following the GPS until the GPS decided it was lost. Wonderful lanes became a fast a road and then it became clear that thst a road wasn't even on the Garmin map. So an almost vertical climb up an embankment through stinging nettles became the order of the moment.
Let it not be said that a mere forest of nettles and brambles got on the way of this intrepid pair of cyclists.
The wind today was constantly against me. After 50 miles battling against it my legs decided to take haven in kevs wind shadow for a while and I hit the aero bars. I was tired and the hills here continue to be steep, or 'lumpy' as seems to.be the local term.
Crossing into Devon from Cornwall after crossing the Tamar horse bridge was a lovely ride. The lanes, wild flowers and scenery were all perfect.
The little villAges here are wonderful and I couldn't help thinking how lucky people here are, with there easy going life style.
I had a chat with an artist painting his house like a field of sheep, and met a young girl no more than 9 who had just cycled from lands end with her grandad! We stopped at the horse and hounds pub, the same pub I lunched at two days ago!
The endless grinding up sharp steep climbs gave me the arseache..literally as I was in the saddle all the way mostly.
Finally the globe back packer hostel appeared and here I sit typing in a small hostel full of travelling people from all over the place.
Total distance today 75 miles total ascent 2026m.
Fuel
This is on the cycling roolz. There was no option. The alternative was a banana and they didn't have any so I had to suffer!

There is snoring and there is anti social behaviour! For the love all all things good, pleeeeeeeze go away and get medical attention and let others sleep!!

Tonight
Tonight I'm sleeping up in the attic dormitory . The golant hostel is huge, and finding the room took ages! It felt a little odd not to have to put up a tent when I got here . I must say I prefer it this way!
For those who want go cycle here you may as well eat off the hostel menu. The nearest shop is about 2 miles away and it was closed at 3 pm Saturday. There is a bar here as well. Nice hostel to end a days ride at.
The hostels provide bedding and the showers etc are clean and modern.
As I type the big group of cyclists are changing their route tomorrrow to closer follow where I will ride tomorrow, apparently going right through Dartmoor is very hilly so the route around the top seems to make more sense, especially after today's constant climbing.
I've ordered the requisite full English breakfast with as much food as I can get! It's a good deal at £4.99 and if its as good as this mornings it's worth every penny.
Today on the bike I was happy, there was so much to see. This part of England is defiantly worth a visit, but to do it justice its best on a bike. I doubt the car drivers can see as much of the scenery because the lanes are protected by raised hedge rows. On a bike you see so much.more.
I haven't needed to use the energy gels I bought yet and given the constant steep climbs today over 76 miles that's a surprise.
Tomorrows route ends in Exeter. The yha hostel there is closed so it's off to the globe backpackers hostel. It's a similar distance to today.

Here I am waiting for the ferry across the river . It's free for cyclists but the car drivers have to pay...bloody right to!
Nice gaff
This is a good example of a house I could very easily live in, right next to the river, peace quite and nice people!
